Top 4 Immunity Boosting Drinks In Times Of COVID-19

With the Covid-19 pandemic spreading in India and across the world, we have certainly learnt to take external precautions and measures like wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, sanitizing our hands regularly. But rarely do we pay attention to what we are putting inside our body.

The current situation is a big reminder for all of us, that whether it’s a pandemic like such, a seasonal flu or a disease, the way to fight the above is by boosting your immunity. As building immunity helps in preventing and fighting diseases. Proper hydration and consumption of immunity boosting drinks is one of the most effective ways and easiest ways to boost the immune system. Hence, here are our top 4 quick, easy, and super healthy juice recipes, made with basic 3-4 ingredients which contain immunity boosting properties, and are readily available in most Indian households considering the current lockdown situation.

Turmeric Milk: Call it golden milk, turmeric latte or simply, haldi doodh but turmeric milk is a very healthy drink known for its antioxidant, medicinal, and anti-inflammatory properties.  Tumeric, is an essential spice found in all Indian homes. Loaded with an active compound called curcumin, turmeric is said to contain immunity boosting properties and natural killer cells that can help contain viral infections. Combined with milk, which is a rich source of protein it can go a long way in maintaining a healthy immune system and keeping the diseases away. You can also add a dash of grated ginger to this potion of goodness and enjoy it warm.

Amla and Mint juice: Amla (Indian gooseberry) has versatile uses – from being part of murabba (sweet fruit preserve) to being used on scalp to nourish tresses. An easy way to include this sour-bitter fruit in your diet is to have it as juice flavoured with fresh pudina (mint) and dhania (coriander) leaves. Rich in Vitamin C, copper and other nutrients, amla helps strengthen the nervous system and increase the white blood cell count that is essential to fight diseases. Mint and coriander are also packed with anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that are immunity boosters. It’s ideal to enjoy this juice as a morning ritual.

Honey-Lemon Shot: Who said you could only have boozy shots? A booster shot of honey and lemon once in a day is perfect for anyone, especially those who may not have the time to dilute this into honey-lime water. Often used as natural sweetener, honey is a powerhouse of nutrients. Research suggests that it can help soothe sore throats, wounds, ulcer and treat digestive issues. Its antioxidants help protect the body from cell damage. High in vitamin C, lemon is also a great immunity-booster food that aids digestion too.

Apple Beet Ginger juice: We’ve all heard of the old adage, ‘an apple a day keeps a doctor away’. That’s because apples are packed with vitamins, flavonoids and minerals that are said to help lower the risks of type-2 diabetes, heart disease and regulate our body’s immune system. The vitamin C in beetroot helps the body absorb iron better and heals wounds. Ginger also has immunity-boosting benefits. Its strong antioxidant and anti-bacterial properties are also considered to help fight fever and aid digestion. Including this beautiful, mauve-hued drink in your diet will not only keep you healthy but also add some cheery colour to your day.

While the medical experts are working to find a cure and develop a vaccine, it’s important, that we as individuals are maintaining a healthy diet to boost our immunity levels. And these easy-to-whip-up drinks are the best way to do that.

**No diet or lifestyle modification – aside from physical distancing, and practicing proper hygiene – can protect you from developing COVID-19. The strategies outlined above may boost your immune health, but they don’t protect specifically against COVID-19.

World Health Day 2020: Small Steps Towards Your Healthier Self

Every year, 7th April is celebrated as ‘World Health Day’, a day reserved by the World Health Organization with an aim to focus on the issues of global healthcare, by sharing messages that require urgent attention in keeping the world healthy. This year marks the WHO’s 72nd anniversary, which will celebrate and recognize the work of nurses, midwives and remind world leaders of the critical role nurses and midwives play to keeping the world healthy.

As rightly said ‘You are, what you eat’, and What you eat each day directly affects your health now and in the future. Good nutrition plays a key role in helping you lead a healthy lifestyle. Since the food we eat helps maintain your weight and alleviate the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, kidney failure, or heart disease, and thereby promoting better health and overall well-being.

On this world Health Day do your bit and support the medical staff by staying indoors, implementing social distancing, and eating healthy. Incorporating small changes into your daily lifestyle, can help you remain calm and continue to protect your health during this time. The following are some tips on how to be healthy and stay active while at home during self-quarantine.

Control Portion Sizes

It can be confusing to get portion sizes right, especially when cooking multiple dishes during a meal from scratch. Being at home for extended periods during the quarantine, especially with limited activities can also lead to overeating and stress eating. However, a basic rule to keep in mind while overcoming this problem is to use smaller plates and bowls and chew for longer periods.  A basic guideline for consuming protein every meal is to make sure you consume at least ¼ of your plate with protein in each meal to boost your immunity and build muscles.

Pack your meals with Protein

We all know how protein are known to be the building blocks of our body and are responsible for healthy muscles and a strong immune system. Did you know it is essential to consume protein in every meal? Not being able to meet the daily protein requirement leads to fatigue, weakness, and improper functioning of our body. Our traditional meals do not contain as much protein as we need! That’s why it is important to include a variety of sources like eggs, milk, yogurt, fish, chicken, and paneer etc. in our meals.

Happy World Health Day

Drink Enough Water During The Day

Drink water to cut back on unnecessary calories from sugary and carbonated beverages. To add flavor to your water, add a slice of lemon, lime, fresh fruits, or mint. Previous instances have shown that even mild dehydration can harm or body functioning and negatively affect your sleep patterns. Hence, we must ensure to consume enough water during the day to stay hydrated.

Consume Fruits and Green Vegetables

Our lives are all about hustling day in and out, making it easy to reach out to all kinds of junk, processed food that is unhealthy for us. Make sure to include fruits and green vegetables into your diet to get your daily intake of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Besides, leafy greens also help in boosting your gut, which is directly related to your immunity. Fruits are equally important, so make sure you have a generous helping every day and don’t forget to include citrus fruits – they contain the power of Vitamin C. The more colorful you make your plate, the more likely you are to get the vitamins, minerals, and fiber your body needs to boost your immunity and stay healthy.

This time is important for all of us, to build your health and improve our immune system. Make sure to follow these tips for a healthy and happy tomorrow! As rightly said, a stitch in time saves nine.

**No diet or lifestyle modification – aside from physical distancing, and practicing proper hygiene – can protect you from developing COVID-19. The strategies outlined above may boost your immune health, but they don’t protect specifically against COVID-19.
